DIY Guide
So you’ve decided to tackle a job on your own – but you’re not sure how to get it done. Fear not, because Granitmix is here to help with all of your concrete related queries.

If you decide to mix your own concrete on-site, then the first step is to measure carefully. You can use this website to calculate the concrete volume or call Granitmix directly to get advice. The company will be pleased to help you but bear in mind that calculations will only be as good as the measurements you provide. So always measure again after the footings have been dug or the forms have been fixed into place.

Think about the delivery method that is right for you too. For large jobs, a straightforward concrete mixer may be satisfactory. However, for the majority of DIY tasks you may benefit from using the Granitmix volumetric delivery truck which will mix on-site and ensure there is no waste. It can deliver across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Lanarkshire and the Borders.

From there, make sure you have everything you need before the concrete arrives. For example, if you need to barrow the concrete to where it will be used because of difficult access, then you can talk with Granitmix about the length of time the mixer truck or Volumetric truck needs to be on site with you.

Bear in mind that one cubic metre of concrete weighs around 2.2tonnes – this is the equivalent of approximately 20 barrow loads. Also consider that you only have an hour or so before the concrete starts to go off, so you should have adequate man power on hand before the delivery takes place. In addition, make further allowances for extreme weather conditions, including very hot weather.

Remember that Granitmix offers full technical support and if you have any queries, its dedicated team is only a phone call away.
